Metering

Advanced Metered Infrastructure (AMI)

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems allow utilities to fully read, manage and bill their customers remotely. There are three main ways an AMI system is deployed, with pros to each. Reach out to one of our sales reps to see which type of AMI system would best fit your needs.
All AMI system types tie seamlessly into the Sentryx platform.

TRADITIONAL/FIXED NETWORK

Gateways are owned by the utility and installed on municipal assets. The meters’ nodes communicate directly with these gateways and the data is reported in Sentryx. This fixed network is “closed” and owned by the municipality.

LoRaWAN

LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is typically owned by a third-party provider. Once installed, these networks are “open,” allowing the municipality to utilize the network for other smart devices down the road (smart streetlights, parking, waste management, etc.).

CELLULAR

Rather than installing a network, meters’ nodes with cellular chips use existing cell towers to communicate.

Automated Meter Reading (AMR)

Automated Meter Reading (AMR), otherwise known as drive-by systems, allows field crews to drive past meters and pull a reading from their vehicle, rather than having to exit and pull a direct read. Data pulled from the AMR can be pushed into the utility’s billing software, eliminating the need for manual entry.
